Building Typology

1. Which Building typology you are researching?
The building typology that I am researching is libraries.

2. Why are you researching this building typology?
the reason I am researching libraries is because there are many library with different design but all consist of a common goal, and that is the preservation of information.

3. What is the specialty of this building type you would like to research?
I would like to research a library that focus on the human diagnostic. a library that would hold all type of information about what type of sickness a human over time has overcome and has not found a cure for.

4. what are the example that you will be researching?
I would start by researching small library and then move on to medium then to complex. the whole reason for this step is to find a common ground among big and small libraries. among the small libraries i would start with :
1. Nishimachi International School, Yashiro Media Center by TOMURO Atelier + Kenichi Nakamura and Associates, located at Tokyo, Japan
2. Upper Riccarton Community and School Library, by Warren and Mahoney Limited, located Christchurch, New Zealand.
3. Gentry Public Library, by Marlon Blackwell, located Gentry, Arkansas

5. what are your goal for working with this building type?
My goal for working with this building type is to achieve a simple look that would appeal to my audience and would serve its purpose. also, a place where functionality, design, and productivity are a key factor of this building.

6. what are the program elements that you see included at this point in your building?
I would like to hold on from answering this question until a little more of research.

There is a specific/distinct type of libraries you are researching, which is human diagnostic. Within that I see you are beginning to identify a network of possible information branching over some time. This is a good general approach. Perhaps as you are generating forms keep referencing and reinforcing your initial research adding more specific information and digging deeper into the types of categories your starting to talk about. The general tendency is to leave out the research and move on to next steps; unless that is the goal, I do recommend returning to these questions. Libraries for centuries were programmatically much about the kind of idea of serving as a resource, a place to draw information from, to tap into sources not readily available outside of library; that is in addition to preservation and collection of information. Currently all these functions, undergo changes as result of advancing computer technologies and systems, specifically the internet. So there is a type of hybrid evolution of a function of library, shown across multiple different typologies. This might be a little puzzling; in general, looking at your tapeworm and matrix diagram, come back to these questions as many times as necessary.
